Major European indices close lower with the Spain’s Ibex the worst performer

The major European indices are all closing down on the day with Spain’s Ibex the worst performer.

A snapshot of the closing levels shows:

  • German DAX, -0.29%
  • France’s CAC, -0.71%
  • UK’s FTSE 100, -0.47%
  • Spain’s Ibex, -1.22%
  • Italy’s FTSE MIB -0.71%

With one day left in the trading week, the major indices mixed with German DAX and France’s CAC down on the week while Spain’s Ibex and Italy’s FTSE MIB are both higher despite the declines seen today.

  • Spain’s Ibex +0.38%
  • Italy’s FTSE MIB +0.69%

As London/European traders head for the exits, the major indices are lower but coming off their low levels.

  • Dow industrial average -0.97%
  • S&P index -0.98%
  • NASDAQ index -1.21%

US yields are higher with the two-year up 8.4 basis points 3.719%. The 10 year yield is testing the key 4.25%. It is currently at 4.241% +3.5 basis points on the day. The 30 year is trading at 4.872% or +1.6 basis points. Later today at 1 PM, the U.S. Treasury will sell 29 year and 11 month bonds (a reopen of last month 30 year issue). The 3 and 10 year note auction’s on Tuesday and Wednesday were met with fairly tepid demand.
