The chair of the UK’s competitors watchdog has been fired by authorities ministers who felt that the Competitors and Markets Authority (CMA) had didn’t persuade them it was sufficiently targeted on progress.

Authorities sources mentioned that with the chancellor and enterprise secretary on the World Financial Discussion board in Davos attempting to drum up funding, the federal government wished to ship a sign that it was severe about progress.

The CMA not too long ago held up a merger between Vodafone and Three Cell Networks which was ultimately accredited.

Marcus Bokkerink, who has chaired the CMA since 2022, will probably be changed on an interim foundation by Doug Gurr, former boss of Amazon UK.
